Filter Media Structure

1.Fiber Depth Type

* Media thickness is around 10mm thick and captures particles within the fiber layers.
Effective filtration area is around 500 cm2.
It has a high filter rating, but has also a high pressure drop or resistance to flow. Number of filters to be used for an application is large.
Generally, it has a sloping pattern of openings which gets smaller as it nears the inner portion. There are many cases involving this type which have much ineffective fiber layers.
Wound filters are available in Yamashin as SCH and PPH series.
2.Fiber Pleated Type

* Media thickness is commonly at several hundred micron. Effective filtration area ranges from 3,000 to 6,300 cm2 which is larger than those of depth type. Due to this advantage, for a similar filter rating, pressure drop is low, assuring a lesser number of filters to be used for the same application. Effective surface and penetrating filtration are assured. Finally, filters can be manufactured specifically to match specific needs and applications. PP, PET and Glass fiber media are used for this type.
3. Membrane
* Media thickness are commonly at several tens of micron meter. Effective filtration area is around 7,000 cm2 or larger.
It has accurate opening distribution and characterized by its surface filtration or basically capturing particles at its surface.
It has a very high and accurate filtration efficiency and rating to even minute sizes.
PES membrane filter and PTFE membrane filters are available as YSP and TFP/TFN series, respectively.
