President Message

07/03/2003

March 2003

Around the end of February, I have been to Seoul in Korea.
That evening when we arrived at Seoul, we were invited to dinner by
the people of our Korean agency.
I asked them, "What is the best Korean dinner in this season ?"
They answered, "Fugu, a kind of a pufferfish, is the best one."

Fugu is very famous in Japan for its very delicate taste.
Mr. Rosannjinn Kitaoji, one of the famous Japanese gourmet authority,
praised fugu so much and once said, "The taste of fugu is absolute !"
But fugu is very expensive in Japan.
At a three star Japanese restaurant, the average price of a fugu dinner course
will cost about 200 USD per person.

It is very interesting for me to see how a Korean chef prepares fugu,
so, we went to the fugu restaurant.

We were very surprised at the food preparation of the restaurant.
It was quite different from the Japanese traditional way.
We usually have Tessa (sliced raw fugu) and Tecchiri (pot of fugu and vegetable stew)
with Ponnzu (special sauce with juice pressed from a bitter lemon) and after Tetchiri
we make Zosui (rice porridge) using Tecchiri soup.

But in Seoul they had Tecchiri with Korean Miso (soybean paste with hot chili)
and consequently, they made Zosui with Kimuchi (korean pickles) flavor.
Where were the delicate and subtle taste of fugu ?
Of course, we understand they are quite innocent.
This is the difference in culture.

It is one of the important fundamentals for cooking to use the qualities of
the materials to its best advantage.
I believe that we can say the same things about daily business life.

We often say, "Put the right person in the right post."
But, is he really just the man for that position ?
Do we actually assign all our employees to a position where they can each
give full potential to their natural abilities ?
On the contrary, can the managers determine what their members'
natural abilities and characteristics are?
The lack of cooking ability spoils the natural taste of ingredients.
An incompetent boss brings difficult life to employees.

Not only personnel affairs, we have to think also about Money, Time, Resources,
and Information.
It is very important to make the best use out of them.
You can enjoy Money, Time, Resources, and Information 5 times more
depending on how you use them.

Reflecting on me, I have no other words to say.
Though theory and practice do not always go together, someone said,
"It depends on the president whether the company grows or not."
I will try to make the best management, so as to give a good example to others.

I hope for your continuous patronage and support on Yamashin Filter.
Thank you.
