In the middle of March, there was CONEXPO in Las Vegas USA, as shown in the picture above, YAMASHIN joined and exhibited such booth. Of course many of our clients came and visited our booth, but also our competitors or rivals visited our booth much more. They were showing a strong interest to our environmentally friendly filters as the next generation filter. Of course, in Europe environmental concern is strong, but so is being requested now in the U.S. As soon as I returned Japan, we had 3 days of surveillance audit for our ISO 9001 and ISO 14000 systems. There were several non-conformances that were found, however we still received the passing mark by all means. It was during this time that I heard from the auditor regarding the 3Rs. The 3Rs represents "Reduce", "Re-use" and "Recycle" which is the general term for the conference that will be held in Tokyo this April entitled, "The Ministerial Conference on the 3R Initiative". This was proposed by Prime Minister Koizumi last June, 2004, during the G8 Sea Island Summit which was agreed upon by the G8 leaders as a new G8 initiative, and is said to be the international conference that intends to achieve integration of the environment and the economy through the effective use of resources and aim to build a sound material-cycle society. The following activity is developed specifically as the promotion campaign of 3Rs. The 1st R, Reduce, is to use things valuably and decrease waste. Ex. [1] : Don't receive any useless things or buy them. Ex. [2] : When shopping, bring along your own bag for packaging shopped items. The 2nd R, Re-use, is to use repeatedly an item that is needed. Ex. [1] : Choose an item that uses reused packaging. Ex. [2] : Pass on unneeded items. The 3rd R, Recycle, is to use waste once again as new resources. Ex. [1] : Segregate waste properly. Ex. [2] : Use products that are made of or using recycled materials. A filter as a disposable product becomes scrapped material after use. As a filter maker, it is natural for us to consider the environment during product development stage. At CONEXPO in Las vegas when Yamashin proposed the new environmentally friendly product, unexpectedly responded in line with the 3R initiative. As a result, the installation of these models are being considered now by a major equipment maker in the U.S. for next term. Environment and business are likely to be able to stand together by all means. I hope for your continued patronage and support for the Yamashin Filter Group. Thank you.
