How to choose a filter

The first step in selecting a filter is to clearly identify the application and usage criteria. Our product catalogs can help with this process. Once performance parameters have been confirmed, the optimum filter can be chosen.

Filtration efficiency

In our product catalogs, we clearly indicate the initial absolute filtration precision of our products, calculated using in-house testing methods. The filtration efficiency of membrane products shown in our catalogs is calculated in accordance with JIS/ASTM standards.

Flow characteristic (flow rate – pressure drop)

This describes the relationship between flow rate and the pressure needed to filter liquids and air. Assuming the same filtration media is used, flow pressure drop tends to rise when filtration efficiency increases. In filter products with low pressure drop, the necessary flow rate can be achieved at lower pressures, reducing system running costs by limiting the burden on pumps and other components.

Integrity testing

This involves checking filter media for uniformity and defects and identifying possible faults in filter assemblies (leaks and other issues). The YAMASHIN Group conducts complete integrity testing across its product range (with the exception of certain products).

Service life

We conduct accelerated service life testing, simulated service life testing and other testing as needed to estimate the volume of contaminants captured and removed by our filters. We provide this information to allow customers to identify the number of filters and type of systems they need for their required service life.

Chemical and solvent resistance

We conduct chemical- and solvent-resistance testing in accordance with JIS standards, and provide this information to show the compatibility of filters with certain conditions.

Heat resistance

Our catalogs clearly show the fluid temperature operating range of our filters.
